Pipe Dreams grew out of my ongoing interest in the minor structures that shape our everyday environments, and the experiences associated with just happening across them by chance. I always loved the work of Bernd and Hilla Becher, but their cataloguing of neutral industrial forms is not what I am chasing. In Berlin, where the seeds of this idea developed, utilitarianism is a part of the environment. One can find these odd shapes lounging around as if they own the place, obvious and unvenerated. Pipe Dreams is a way of bringing them, briefly, to mind.
